FirsT the company of the IRS group dedicated to research and development, in collaboration with A.P.E. Research, the University of Trieste and the University of Udine have given rise to the BIOSAFE (BIOfilm Sensing and Analysis For hEalth) project with the aim of developing early detection and monitoring systems for microbial biofilms and being able to use them in contexts and in systems that are difficult to access (such as pipes, membranes of medical devices or appliances)
Bacterial biofilms are communities of microorganisms with a high colonizing capacity of surfaces and environments. Among the main culprits of microbial contamination, biofilms can generate various health, environmental, domestic, and industrial risks. For this reason, in contexts where they represent a hygienic-sanitary problem it is neces
sary to implement extraordinary sanitation interventions, whose side effects can however have negative consequences.
